National Coming Out Day Special – October 11, 2011

This year on National Coming Out Day, the entire Outbeat Radio team hosted a special show featuring coming out stories from around Sonoma County.  We were joined by special guests Judy and Dennis Shepard, parents of Matthew Shepard who was murdered in a vicious hate crime twelve years ago this week.  They talked about the importance of coming out and about why parents need to support their LGBT youth.  Several of the Outbeat Radio hosts wrote letters to themselves as part of a special feature for Gay.com.  The idea was to write a letter dated one year before you actually came out with advice to yourself, based on what you learned after having come out.  Several of the hosts read their letters on the show.  This was the first time Outbeat Radio celebrated National Coming Out Day with a live show.
