Outbeat Now! – September 25, 2011

We celebrating the final implementation of the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” and talked with three LGBT members of the military including Josh Robinson, William Rodriguez-Kennedy, and Matt Avila. Josh and William served the Marine Corps and Matt the Navy. Williams was discharged three years ago under DADT. All three of the brave members of our military marched openly in San Diego’s pride parade. They talked with us about what life was like hiding while protecting our nations freedoms and told us about how things have changed. Josh also talked being a founding member of Protect and Defend, an organization supporting LGBT members of law enforcement and the military.

On the Outbeat Youth segment, Greg Miraglia talked with local singer-song writer Bobby Jo Valentine who shared, for the first time on the radio, his coming out story. He told us about how his experience growing up in a conservative religious family and being gay influences the music he writes.
